Hawks Honor First Pitch Kid - Trevor Hicks

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

Steve Patterson - Moving Pictures

Throughout the year Coach Autrey and the Varsity Hawks will also honor some great students from around ROISD. Tonight we welcome and honor Trevor Hicks of Red Oak Intermediate to throw out the first pitch as well.

Trevor is a 6th grader who was nominated by his teacher Mrs. Lindstrom. He is the son of David and Shannon Hicks and has two brothers Trey Hicks at 5th grader at ROI and Buddy Ray Hicks a 3rd grader at Eastridge Elementary. Trevor’s hobbies and interests are listed: Trevor is an exceptional artist and uses his drawing abilities to be creative in every class in school.

Trevor is interested in non-fiction stores especially science. He also enjoys playing video games with this family at home and is a member of the Intermediate School Choir. Mrs. Lindstrom nominated Trevor due to his confidence and regard for what is right for all students. He is quick to take up for other students and tell another student that what he or she is doing wrong is not what they should be doing.

Trevor is respectful to all his teachers and does very well in all his classes. Red Oak Intermediate School, Project Success Drug Education and Red Oak Hawks Varsity Baseball are proud to congratulate Trevor Hicks as tonight’s first pitch student.

JV Lady Hawks Soccer News!

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

soccer-girls-jv.jpg

The Lady Hawk JV soccer team travelled to Corsicana to take on the Lady Tigers.  Following a scoreless first half, the Lady Tigers scored off a free kick when a forward slipped in front of our defenders and touched the ball past the goalie.

The Lady Hawks would rally with ten minutes to play when Emily DeYoung charged in off a Casey Ballard deflected shot to tie the game.  The ladies continued to pressure the Lady Tiger defense but were unable to connect until, with a MERE 6 SECONDS on the clock, Allison Counts drilled the game winner past the Corsicana goalie.

The victory leaves the ladies at 1-0-2 in district play.  The Lady Hawks will conclude their season on Friday when they host the Waxahachie Lady Indians.

The JV boys’ basketball team closed our its season with a 61-47 win over Forney on Tuesday, February 16. It was the Hawks’ only game of the season without leading scorer and rebounder Jeremiah Gaines, but the team responded well with each player taking up some of the slack.

Nick Giron and Luke Eubanks led the way with 13 points each, and Jesse Swindoll had his best game of the season, putting in 12 points. Ellis Sherman also added 9. For a young team experience-wise, these Hawks rounded out their season in good form. They finished 15-11 overall and 6-5 in district, winning their last 3.

Varsity Hawks Soccer Update!

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

soccer-boys-varsity.jpg

Your Boys soccer team brought home the district title last night.  It was a big game for the boys with it being senior night and our charity game.  The boys beat Corsicana 3 to 1.  That takes the boys to 18-1-1 in the season and 8-0-1 in district.

In district play the boys only gave up 1 goal all season.  Our first playoff game will be when we come back from Spring Break. On another side the boys and girls soccer teams raised over $3,000 for our charity at last nights game.

We appreciate all who supported our cause and it’s great to see our teams work for the good of our community.  We appreciate the hard work Mrs. Malke put into this to be such a success.
