ROHS Hawks Regional Track Meet!

Saturday, May 16th, 2009

The boys track team finished competing in the Regional Track Meet at the University of North Texas in Denton, TX yesterday.  These young men did a good job of representing Red Oak High School.  Preston Sanders is our only boy to advance to the State Meet in Austin.  He will be competing in two weeks in the Shot and Discus.  Here are the results from the meet.

Please congratulate these young men because they competed in what is considered by most the toughest 4A Region in the State of Texas.  Thank you for all your help and support of these young men this year and hopefully we can get Preston to bring home two gold medals from the State Meet.

BIG congrats to the Red Oak Wind Ensemble for an OUTSTANDING performance at the Meyerson Symphony Center!  What an amazing experience for these kids!  You’ll be interested in hearing that the lead evaluator wrote the following on his comment sheet:  “The most musical and musically prepared band I have heard over the 2 days that I have been here.”

High praise indeed for Red Oak! And now the results of the band’s performance / competition at the Eisemann Center in Richardson: The Symphonic Band performed very well and received an overall rating of “Excellent” from the three judges. The Wind Ensemble had an exceptional performance, earning them a unanimous “Superior” rating from all three judges, and they were awarded the overall “Most Outstanding Group” award at the festival! Congratulations to both of these groups!

softball-scoreboard-copy.jpg

Lady Hawk’s defeated Midlothian last night 3-1 in their first game of a three game series. Jaimi Munoz went two for three at the plate hitting a single and a triple.

Shelby Hall had two RBI’s for the night with a Sacrifice Fly and a Solo Home Run over the centerfield fence. Erica Brown and Rachael Alfred each had a hit for the night. We played terrific defense last night, no errors.

After Lady Hawks took down # 6 state ranked Midlothian Lady Panthers in game one on Thursday at the Hawks Nest 3-1, the ladies dropped two straight at Midlothian on Saturday to be eliminated from the 4-A state playoffs.

Varsity Hawks Baseball Update!

The Varsity Baseball Team ended district play last night with a 1 to 0 win over Forney.  Brent Fletcher threw 5 good innings and Kolby Kissinger closed the game out.  Kissinger also scored the only run of the game off of Darren Eubanks’ RBI sacrifice fly ball.  The win gave the Hawks second place in the district and sets up a first round playoff matchup with Midlothian.

The Hawks ended district with a 9 and 3 record and 20 and 9 over all.  The Varsity Baseball Team will take on Midlothian next weekend in the first round of the playoffs.  Sites and times have not been decided yet, but we will let everyone know as soon as everything is set.  Thanks for all of your support.

The Varsity Baseball Hawks will look for some revenge on Midlothian as the Hawks who finished 2nd in district 15-4 A will take on the third place team from district 14-4 A the Midlothian Panthers. Game 1 will be Thursday 14th at 7 p.m. at Red Oak’s Buddy Groom Field, game # 2 will be Friday 7 p.m. at Midlothian with game 3 if needed location to be determined.

Message from the Athletic Director

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

Faculty, staff and supporters of Red Oak ISD,

Due to the modification of the Swine Flu guidelines by the CDC, the UIL has lifted the ban on UIL competition effective immediately. Certification dates have been moved up in baseball and softball which necessitates the modification of our softball play off and district baseball schedules.

Red Oak will host Game one of the best of three series in softball against Midlothian, tomorrow, (or tonight depending on when you are able to read this e-mail), Thursday, May 7, at 7:00 at our new softball complex. Game two in the series will be Saturday at 1:00 in Midlothian, game three if necessary will be played at 3:00 in Midlothian. Ticket prices for game one are $4 for adults and $3 for students. District and UIL Coaches will be accepted. No faculty passes will be accepted.

The final District baseball game against Forney will also be here at the new Buddy Groom Field Thursday, May 7, at 7:00. This game will determine our position in the play offs as it is for second place in District 15 4A.

Please come out and support OUR HAWKS and Lady HAWKS for these very important games, and thank you again for the tremendous support you have give all of OUR student athletes this year.

**INFLUENZA UPDATE**

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

120840-685928-762.jpg  In light of revised school closure guidelines from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Texas Education Agency (TEA) today is advising districts to reopen schools. The CDC released new recommendations for schools regarding H1N1 influenza (swine flu).

The guidelines rescind recommended closures for confirmed and suspected cases, but continue to encourage personal hygiene, hand washing and cough etiquette as a way to reduce the spread of influenza.  Adults and students experiencing symptoms of influenza should not attend school or work until symptoms subside.
